How to Find Your Size in Flat Shoes
Buying flat shoes online is easier when you know your size and what to look for. Flats fit differently from heels or sneakers: there is less structure to hold the foot, so small differences in length and width show up quickly. This guide helps you get the right fit the first time.
Step 1: Measure your foot at home
- Place a sheet of paper against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure from the wall to the mark in inches (or centimeters).
- Do both feet and use the longer measurement.
Measure in the evening, when your feet are at their widest.
Step 2: Compare with the size chart
Use the measurement with our size guide to find your size. If you are between two sizes, the style tips below will help you choose.
Step 3: Think about the style
|
Style |
What to look for |
|---|---|
|
Ballet flats |
A snug but not tight fit. Leather softens with wear, so a close fit at first is normal. |
|
Loafers |
Your heel should stay in place when you walk. Elastic panels give a little more flexibility. |
|
Flip flops and slides |
Your toes should rest comfortably on the footbed, with the heel close to the edge. |
|
Trainers |
Leave a little room at the toe, and wear the socks you plan to wear with them. |
Toe shape and width
Pointed toes need a bit more length. Square and round toes give your toes more space. If you have a wider foot, a square or round toe is usually more comfortable, and a style with an elastic or adjustable fastening can help.
If you are between sizes
- Choose the larger size for leather styles you want to wear with socks, or if you have a wider foot.
- Choose the smaller size for a slip-on you want to feel secure, if the style has some stretch.
- Not sure? Contact us and tell us your foot measurement and the style you like.
